Warehouse staffing for distribution centres, 3PLs and fulfilment

Pickers, packers, forklift operators, shippers and receivers, lumpers and inventory clerks, for a single shift or a two-hundred-person peak, from an agency that has staffed GTA warehouses since 2017.

Overview

What we do

Warehousing is where Assured started and it is still the largest part of our business. Retail and grocery distribution, third-party logistics, e-commerce fulfilment, parts and import distribution, cold storage: the buildings differ, but the staffing problem is the same. Volume moves, people are needed on the floor tomorrow, and the ones who arrive have to be safe, certified where it matters and still there in six weeks.

We hold a database of more than 25,000 candidates, organised by postal code and by what they have actually done: reach truck or counterbalance, RF picking, dock work, cold rooms. That is how we get from an order at nine in the morning to vetted people on the floor the next day, and why our fill rates through fourth-quarter peaks hold up.

Every warehouse worker we place is on our payroll, covered by our WSIB account, and has completed WHMIS and a safety orientation before their first shift. Your supervisor gets a person who can start, not a paperwork exercise.

Roles we fill

Positions

  1. 01

    Order pickers and packers

RF-scanner and voice picking, pack-out, labelling and quality checks. Experienced with pick rates and accuracy targets.

  2. 02

    Forklift operators

Counterbalance, reach truck, order picker (cherry picker), walkie and clamp. Certificates verified; practical evaluation on your equipment when you want it.

  3. 03

    Shippers and receivers

Inbound verification against purchase orders, bills of lading, WMS transactions, staging and load-out. Often with forklift.

  4. 04

    Material handlers and lumpers

Container and trailer unloading, palletising, floor loading and line-side supply, at volume and on short notice.

  5. 05

    Inventory and cycle-count clerks

Counts, adjustments, location audits and WMS data hygiene.

  6. 06

    Leads and supervisors

Shift leads and floor supervisors for temp-to-perm or direct hire, with references from previous warehouse leadership roles.

Screening

How we screen warehouse staff

The point of an agency is that the people who arrive have already been checked. This is what we check.

  1. 01

    Forklift competency

Certificate verified against the training provider, class of equipment confirmed, and a practical check on your machines if you ask for it.

  2. 02

    Safety orientation

WHMIS, PPE requirements (CSA-approved footwear before day one), lifting technique and your site rules, briefed before arrival.

  3. 03

    Work history and references

Previous warehouse employers contacted for attendance and reliability, not just dates.

  4. 04

    Shift and commute fit

Transportation confirmed for the exact shift and site. Most early quits trace back to a commute that never worked.

  5. 05

    Background checks where required

Criminal record checks for bonded, high-value or airport-area sites, arranged before the start date.

Questions

Frequently asked

How is a temporary warehouse worker billed?

An hourly bill rate that includes the worker's wage, statutory costs (CPP, EI, EHT, WSIB), vacation and statutory-holiday pay, and our margin. There are no placement fees for temporary staff, and you are invoiced weekly against approved timesheets.

How much notice do you need for a peak-season ramp-up?

For twenty or more people, about a week. For larger fourth-quarter programs we start planning in August with a bench of returning seasonal workers, so the first week of October is not a scramble.

Who carries WSIB and liability for temporary staff?

We do. Every temporary worker is our employee, covered under our WSIB account and liability insurance. Under Ontario law the client and the agency share responsibility for a safe workplace, so we also confirm your site orientation has been completed.

What happens if someone does not show up?

Call your recruiter and we replace them, usually within the shift for general labour and picking roles in the GTA. Hours not worked are not billed.

Can we hire a temporary worker permanently?

Yes. Temp-to-perm conversion is built into every agreement, with the conversion terms written down before the first shift.
