About the role
The work
Warehouse work is the largest category of jobs we fill. Retail and grocery distribution centres, third-party logistics buildings, e-commerce fulfilment, import and parts distribution and cold storage all need the same core roles: people who pick and pack orders accurately, load and unload trailers, keep inventory straight and move product safely.
Most warehouse roles do not require formal qualifications to start. What employers want is reliability, attention to accuracy targets and the ability to stay on your feet for a shift. Forklift certification opens the door to higher-paid roles, and many of our workers have moved from general warehouse work into forklift, shipping and lead positions within a year.
We place warehouse staff on temporary, temp-to-perm and permanent terms. A large share of the permanent warehouse jobs in the GTA start as temp-to-perm placements, so a temporary assignment is often the way in.
Pay
Typical pay in the GTA
Typical range across our GTA warehouse placements. Pay is set by each employer and varies with the role, shift and site.
$18 to $24 an hour
- Forklift or reach-truck certification adds $2 to $5 an hour
- Afternoon and night shifts usually carry a $1 to $2 premium
- Cold-storage and freezer work pays more than dry warehousing
- Weekly direct deposit, vacation and statutory-holiday pay on every assignment
Requirements
What you need to start
Legal eligibility to work in Canada
A SIN and valid status. We verify this once at registration.
CSA-approved safety footwear
Steel or composite toe with the green triangle, before your first shift.
WHMIS
Most sites require WHMIS 2015 training. We can arrange it if you do not have a current certificate.
Physical readiness
Standing and walking for a full shift and lifting up to about 50 lb (23 kg) repeatedly, depending on the role.
Useful, not required
Forklift certification, RF-scanner experience, food-handler certificate for grocery and food distribution.
A typical shift
What a warehouse shift looks like
Most GTA warehouses run day shifts around 7am to 3:30pm, afternoons from about 3pm to 11:30pm and nights from 11pm to 7:30am, with some sites on 12-hour continental rotations. You clock in, attend a short start-up meeting, and are assigned to picking, packing, receiving or loading for the shift.
Picking means moving through the aisles with an RF scanner or voice headset, collecting items to a cart or pallet against a pick list, with accuracy and rate targets. Packing is at a station: checking the order, packing, labelling and moving cartons to the outbound line. Receiving and loading work happens on the dock, unloading trailers, verifying counts and staging product.
Breaks are scheduled, usually two paid 15-minute breaks and an unpaid 30-minute meal. Expect to walk several kilometres in a shift in a large building.

Do I need experience to get a warehouse job?
No. Many of our warehouse placements are entry level. Reliability, safety footwear and the ability to work a full shift on your feet are what employers ask for. Experience and certifications move you into higher-paid roles.
How quickly can I start?
Often within a few days of registering. Once your documents are verified and we have matched you to a site, you can be on a shift the next day for many general warehouse roles.
Is there a fee to work through Assured?
No. Job seekers never pay a fee. Employers pay for our service.
How am I paid?
Weekly by direct deposit, with vacation pay and statutory-holiday pay. You are our employee while on assignment, covered by WSIB and with source deductions handled.
Can a temporary warehouse job become permanent?
Frequently. Many employers hire through temp-to-perm, taking workers onto their own payroll after a set number of hours. Ask your recruiter which sites do.
