Overview

Staffing in Indiana

More interstate highways meet in Indianapolis than in any other U.S. city, and the state's economy is built around that crossroads. Plainfield and the I-70 west corridor hold some fifty million square feet of distribution space, one of the largest clusters in the Midwest, Whitestown and Lebanon along I-65 north have added millions of square feet in a decade, Mount Comfort is growing east along I-70, and Greenwood anchors the south side. The airport hosts FedEx's second-largest hub in the world, sorting more than two million packages a day, and the night sort there sets the rhythm for thousands of warehouse shifts.

Beyond the capital, Indiana makes things: it has the highest concentration of manufacturing employment of any state. Fort Wayne builds pickups and parts, Kokomo builds transmissions, engines and now battery cells, Lafayette builds cars and heavy engines, Columbus is the home of diesel engines, the Elkhart–South Bend belt builds most of North America's recreational vehicles, Evansville holds plastics, aluminum and automotive plants and the Ohio River ports, Jeffersonville's River Ridge Commerce Center has grown to twenty million square feet and more than 12,000 jobs across the river from Louisville, and the mills of Lake and Porter counties make about a quarter of the country's steel.

We staff Indiana from Markham with recruiters assigned to the state, candidate pools organised by where people live, and the same screening on certification, references and shift fit that our Ontario clients know. The paperwork runs under U.S. and Indiana rules, on our side, and you never see it.

How it works

How an Indiana placement works

Indiana, United States

Placements in Indiana run on the same model as everywhere we work: the worker is on our payroll, not yours. We handle work-authorization verification, onboarding paperwork, payroll in U.S. dollars, federal, Indiana and county withholding, unemployment insurance through the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, and an Indiana workers' compensation policy for the assignment, under which Indiana courts treat the agency and the client as joint employers. You get a person who can start and one weekly invoice.

Indiana's distribution corridors run around the clock and the airport hub runs overnight, so we screen for shift fit and transportation before we introduce anyone, and we verify forklift certification, CDL class and driving record where a role calls for it.

  • Workers employed and paid by Assured under U.S. federal and Indiana law
  • Work-authorization verification and onboarding paperwork handled by Assured
  • Indiana workers' compensation policy, state and county withholding and unemployment insurance on our side
  • Weekly pay for every worker; one weekly invoice for you
  • Temporary, temp-to-perm and direct-hire terms

Assured Employment Services operates in accordance with the labour, tax and workers' compensation laws of each province and state where it places staff, and never charges job seekers a fee.

Getting to work in Indiana

In Indianapolis, IndyGo's Route 8 links downtown to the airport area, and CIRTA's fare-free Plainfield and Whitestown Connectors carry workers from IndyGo stops to the airport-area and AllPoints fulfilment parks in two shift windows a day, six days a week; outside those windows, and in Mount Comfort and Greenwood, people drive. Fort Wayne's Citilink and South Bend's Transpo cover their cities' core industrial areas on weekdays and Saturdays, the Interurban Trolley links Mishawaka to Elkhart and Goshen, and River Ridge, the Princeton and Roanoke assembly plants, Kokomo and the Northwest Indiana mills are reached by car.

Parking is free at essentially every site. We ask about reliable transportation before placing anyone on a night or early-morning shift, and we match on commute realistically so that retention holds through the winter.

From the GTA, Indianapolis is about nine hours by road through Detroit, or a ninety-minute nonstop flight; our recruiters travel to Indiana for client visits, and candidates are interviewed by video or at your site.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do you have an office in Indiana?

Not yet. Our office is in Markham, Ontario, and our Indiana recruiters work by phone, video and regular on-site visits. Client kick-offs and site walk-throughs happen at your facility, and candidate interviews are held by video or at your site when you prefer to meet people first.

How does a Canadian agency employ workers in Indiana?

The workers are employed and paid by Assured under U.S. federal and Indiana law, with work-authorization verification, payroll withholding, unemployment insurance and workers' compensation handled on our side. You receive one weekly invoice. Ask us for the specifics that apply to your engagement before we begin.

What do warehouse and production roles pay in Indiana?

Pay is set by each client. Across our placements, warehouse and package-handling roles typically start between $17 and $22 an hour, forklift operators between $19 and $24, production and assembly operators between $18 and $25, and CDL-A drivers between $25 and $34. Night and weekend premiums are common.

How quickly can you staff a Plainfield or Whitestown order?

Pickers, packers and general labour usually within one to two business days. Forklift operators, shippers and production operators typically take two to four days because we verify certification and references first. Peak ramp-ups of twenty or more people need about a week's notice.

Do you cover both Indianapolis and the rest of the state?

Yes. The same team covers the Indianapolis corridors, Southern Indiana with Louisville, and the manufacturing cities of Fort Wayne, Kokomo, Lafayette, Columbus, Evansville and Elkhart–South Bend, plus the steel mills and port of Northwest Indiana.
