Overview
Staffing in Alberta
Alberta is Western Canada's distribution hub and its industrial engine. Calgary's inland port at Balzac and the intermodal yards on the city's edge move retail, grocery and e-commerce goods for four provinces, and the southeast industrial districts hold food processing, manufacturing and the 3PL buildings that serve them. Edmonton's Nisku–Leduc park is the largest developed energy-services industrial park in Canada, Acheson's ten thousand acres on the west edge hold distribution, and Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan and the Industrial Heartland, the country's largest hydrocarbon-processing region, hold refining, petrochemical and fertilizer plants whose turnarounds need labour on short notice.
Between the two cities, the QEII corridor runs through Red Deer and its agricultural-equipment, fabrication and petrochemical employers, and in the south, Lethbridge has grown into one of Canada's agri-food processing centres. Every one of those markets hires warehouse workers, forklift operators, production staff and Class 1 drivers in steady numbers, and in a province where oil prices move the whole labour market, the ability to scale a workforce up and down quickly is worth a great deal.
Our recruiters cover Alberta with candidate pools organised by where people live, so a Calgary order is filled by Calgarians who can reach Balzac or the Foothills district, and an Edmonton order by people who can get to Nisku or Acheson, in winter, on a night shift.

How it works
How an Alberta placement works
Alberta, Canada
A worker placed in Alberta is employed by Assured, not by you, under the Alberta Employment Standards Code, with workers' compensation arranged through WCB-Alberta and payroll remittances handled on our side. Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety Act gives staffing agencies specific duties, including confirming that each worker is suited to the client's tasks and properly equipped before they start, and we meet them as a matter of course. You get a person who can start, with WHMIS and a site orientation done; we handle the onboarding paperwork, the deductions and the follow-up.
Alberta's labour market moves with commodity prices, so we structure engagements to flex: temporary crews for peaks and turnarounds, and longer assignments for the roles you expect to keep, scaled up or down with your volume.
- Workers employed and paid by Assured under the Alberta Employment Standards Code, including the 8-hour-day, 44-hour-week overtime rule
- Workers' compensation arranged through WCB-Alberta; the OHS Act's staffing-agency duties met on every placement
- Payroll and remittances handled by Assured; weekly pay, vacation and general-holiday pay for every worker
- WHMIS and site-specific safety orientation before day one
- Temporary and longer-term assignments, scaled up or down with your volume
Assured Employment Services operates in accordance with the labour, tax and workers' compensation laws of each province and state where it places staff, and never charges job seekers a fee.
For workers
Getting to work in Alberta
In Calgary, the CTrain runs from about four in the morning to half past one at night, Calgary Transit's 148 and 149 routes reach the Foothills, Great Plains and Point Trotter industrial areas, and the 500 Airport Express serves YYC; Balzac and the inland port are car-dependent, since Rocky View County has no transit, and most of our long-term workers there drive or carpool from Airdrie and the northeast. In the Edmonton region, ETS Route 747 links Century Park LRT station to the airport seven days a week and Leduc Transit's Route 10 runs hourly through Leduc, Nisku and the airport; Acheson has on-demand service only, and Refinery Row and the Industrial Heartland are reached by car.
Alberta winters are a real factor for early and night shifts. We ask about reliable transportation before placing anyone on a shift the bus does not cover, and parking is free at essentially every industrial site.
Red Deer, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat are driving markets with weekday-focused bus service; Red Deer is roughly ninety minutes from either Calgary or Edmonton on the QEII.

Questions
Frequently asked
Do you have an office in Calgary or Edmonton?
Not yet. Our office is in Markham and our Alberta recruiters work by phone, video and regular on-site visits. Client kick-offs and site walk-throughs happen at your facility, and candidate interviews are held by video or at your site when you prefer to meet people first.
How quickly can you staff a Balzac or Nisku order?
General labour, pickers, packers and yard staff usually within one to two business days. Forklift operators, shippers and production operators typically take two to four days because we verify certification and references first. Turnaround crews and peak ramp-ups need about a week's notice.
What do warehouse and production roles pay in Alberta?
Pay is set by each client. Across our placements, general labour and picking roles typically start between $19 and $23 an hour, forklift operators between $21 and $26, production and food-processing operators between $19 and $25, and Class 1 drivers between $28 and $36. Night and weekend premiums are common.
Can you supply Class 1 drivers in Alberta?
Yes: city, regional and highway Class 1 drivers and Class 3 straight-truck drivers for carriers and private fleets. Licence class, abstract and training history are verified before an introduction.
Do you cover Red Deer, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat?
Yes. The same recruiters cover the QEII corridor through Red Deer, Lethbridge and southern Alberta, and Medicine Hat and Brooks, from the same candidate pool.
