General labour in Brampton is mostly warehouse floor work and container unloading. The retail and grocery distribution centres along Highway 410 and Steeles hire packers, loaders and floor staff; the transload and container warehouses near Airport Road and the CN intermodal terminal hire lumpers, the heaviest and best-paid entry-level work; and the manufacturers in Bramalea hire production and packaging staff.
Züm 511 along Steeles, 505 along Bovaird and Bramalea GO cover most day-shift sites. Night shifts near the intermodal yard usually need a car or a carpool from Malton or Bramalea, and we ask about that before placing you. General labour in Brampton typically pays $18 to $21 an hour, with lumping at the top.

General labour jobs
General labour is the fastest way into steady work in the GTA. Distribution centres, food and consumer-goods plants, packaging operations and container transload sites all need people who can lift, sort, pack, load and keep a line moving, and they need them quickly. Many of these roles start within a few days of registering with us.

Getting there
Getting to work in Brampton
Most Brampton warehouse sites sit on or near a Züm express corridor: the 511 along Steeles Avenue, the 505 along Bovaird Drive and the 501 along Queen Street. From Toronto, the Kitchener GO line stops at Bramalea, Brampton and Mount Pleasant, and Bramalea GO is a short bus ride from the Steeles and Airport Road employment lands.
Night and weekend shifts are harder. Züm frequency drops late in the evening and some industrial roads have no service after midnight. We ask about transportation before placing anyone on a night shift, and many of our long-term Brampton workers carpool from Malton, Bramalea and Springdale.
Driving is straightforward: parking is free at essentially every site, and the main delays are Airport Road, Torbram Road and the 410 between three and four in the afternoon when the day shift lets out.

Do I need experience?
No. Reliability and safety footwear are what employers require. We explain the physical demands of each site so you can choose one that suits you.
Is general labour a dead end?
It should not be. Most of our forklift operators, shippers and machine operators started in general labour. Tell your recruiter what you want to move into and we will place you where that path exists.
