Working in Toronto

Office & admin work in Toronto

Office work in Toronto concentrates in the financial core, where banks, law firms, insurers and professional-services firms hire receptionists, administrative and executive assistants and accounts staff; in Liberty Village and King West, where technology and media companies need front-desk and office coordinators; in the hospital district, where medical office support is in steady demand; and in midtown around Yonge and Eglinton and St. Clair.

Most roles are on the subway lines, and downtown employers often add a transit allowance. Temporary coverage for leaves and projects is common and frequently converts to permanent. Administrative pay in Toronto typically runs $20 to $28 an hour, with accounts and executive-support roles at the top and permanent positions from $42,000 to $58,000.

Getting there

Getting to work in Toronto

The TTC reaches almost every industrial pocket, though not always quickly: South Etobicoke via Kipling and Islington stations and the 44 Kipling South and 110 Islington South; Rexdale via the 191 Highway 27 Rocket and 45 Kipling; North York via Finch West station and the Finch, Keele and Dufferin buses. Downtown offices are a subway ride.

Blue Night buses cover the major arterials after the subway closes, which keeps Etobicoke and North York night shifts staffable. Rexdale sites off Carlingview and Attwell are where we check transportation most carefully.

For downtown office placements we favour candidates on the subway lines or the GO network. A temp who is late in week one will not be extended in week three.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do you test skills?

Yes: typing, Word, Excel, Outlook and data-entry accuracy, at registration. Scores are shared with employers alongside your profile, which helps you get interviews for roles that match your strengths.

Are office jobs temporary or permanent?

Both, and often one becomes the other. Leave coverage and project roles are temporary; many employers convert good temporary staff to permanent after a set period.

Do you have bilingual roles?

Regularly. Bilingual French is the most common request; Cantonese, Mandarin, Tamil, Punjabi, Hindi and Spanish are also frequently sought for customer-service and front-desk roles.

Not seeing the right role?
